Computer Geeks

Here’s a quick one minute video I shot during a lunch break. Yep, we start ‘em young in the geekiness department!

I have to hand it to Wubie. He’s heard my same tired “VIC 20/Commodore 64” jokes for over a decade now, but he still puts up with ‘em like a fuzzy trooper.

Visiting Filoli with Gma Vita

Yesterday we trekked over to Filoli with Gma Vita. It was nice to finally see the place. Though Jill and the kid are frequent visitors, I was a Filoli newbie. The place is pretty impressive (you know, for a bein’ a bunch of flowers).

I especially liked the area near the pond where there were all sorts of flying critters. While there I thought, “this must be heaven for bees—or at the very least a totally awesome Costco.”

In addition to our pond visit, Lucy played tour guide and pointed out some of her favorite things (“tadpoles!”, “fountains!”, “the cafe where you will buy me a cheese stick!”) and I shot the above HD video.

Yep, it was about as relaxing a Saturday as one could imagine, unless you were Wubert who I’m quite certain was treasuring (i.e., sleeping through) his alone time back at home!

2009 Palo Alto Obon Festival (Video)

Hey, didn’t I just post an Obon Festival video? Well, here’s another one. This video was taken at the Palo Alto Obon Festival held at the PA Buddhist Temple this past weekend.

Lucy got all dressed up for this one (her Mom knows what the outfit is called). We had a lot of fun. We saw Gpa Peter for a bit, had some shaved ice and fries, saw some Taiko drums, and played a few games. Lucy even won (another) cat! Woohoo, just toss it onto the stuffed cat pile we have at home, kid.

A Birthday Party

Gpa Tom came to visit yesterday. We then all went to a birthday party for some friends in Morgan Hill. It was their son’s very first birthday, a very notable occasion.

Lucy was very excited, especially when she saw the park, grass, balloons, and all the people. She even got a lady bug (her favorite kind!) painted on her arm. The bug looked great (until Lucy rubbed her eye, smearing her ladybug and making herself look like an extra from A Clockwork Orange in the same motion).

Shops and Parks

Since I’ve finally admitted to myself that I’m now too lazy to capture video, I’ve been shooting a lot of stuff w/ my little Flip Ultra. The Flip’s neat in that it’s so small I can pretty much always have it on me all the time. I shoot some video, plug it into Jill’s iMac, and drag the video files over. It’s pretty simple. However, it’s also problematic in that the footage it shoots is 4:3 standard quality video.

Luckily, I found a decent alternative via a gold box sale at Amazon. I got a Creative Vado HD. Though it has its share of problems, all in all I’m pretty happy with it. The main reason why I picked it over its competition: it has the widest angle lens I could find in this form factor, a big deal for me.

One thing: it’s funny how fast we get jaded with technology that is really quite amazing. In the Vado, I have an HD video camcorder that weighs just a few ounces, fits in my pocket, can shoot a couple of hours of footage, and costs a fraction of what I paid for a Hi-8 camcorder a few years ago. Yep, amazing.

Anyway, the above video shows us doing a little shopping, doing a little exploring at the park, with the kid; all with the new camcorder.
