Beach day

It was really hot in the valley today (100 degrees!), so Lucy and I decided to go to the beach at Half Moon Bay.

She saw the Pacific up close and personal for the first time! She got to hold seaweed, saw lots of doggies, and watched the waves crashing and the tide go in and out. She definitely wants to come back!

Mother’s Day

We celebrated Mother’s Day today in SF chez Omie (the gray cat). He was an excellent host, darting here and there, showing off his acrobatics. Lucy was quite taken with him and his sis, and can be seen below sporting an “Omie” sticker as a member of his fan club.

It was wonderful to have the whole family together at once, we are especially thankful Gmommy is out of the hospital. So we had quite the shindig–pizza, cake, and lots of presents. Lucy had her 16 month birthday today too, she is growing up so fast! Sigh.

More pics of our day here. Addendum: even more great pics from Auntie Laura here!

In Grandma’s garden

Grandma Vita is always busy in her garden. Here are some of the plants and flowers that grow under Gma’s care.

A lot of her plants have stories, too. Like “that came from so-and-so’s garden,” “that was Uncle Charlie’s,” or “Sam (Jr.) built that.” The walnut tree was dug out by Uncle Charlie, who knew it wouldn’t grow if its trunk was buried. The deck was built by Uncle Charlie (with help from Sam Jr.). There is a lot of family history in her garden! More pics here.

Easter Egg Hunt

Easter Egg Hunt (2008) from Mike C on Vimeo.

Last week Lucy got to participate in her very first Easter Egg Hunt. Though she made a few rookie mistakes (the eggs go in the basket, kid), she did pretty well. Having her ever supportive Mom and assorted relatives close at hand helped a lot in that regard.

Seeing her eyes light up during her “Eureka!” moment, when she actually grasped the basic egg hunt concept of “finding stuff and putting it into a basket” was pretty cool. It was also neat watching her wobble around at her own (un)steady pace while her cousins whizzed this way and that, each clutching their own colorful bounty.

Unfortunately, we forgot to empty our camera’s memory card before going to the get-together, so the video and pics we got were very limited. However, the meager amount of pics we did manage to take have been posted here.

Tiptoe through the tulips

It was another fine day at Filoli, so Lucy, G’Mommy and I went for a visit. The tulips are now in bloom, and Lucy got a chance to have a look around at ground level. We got a lot of video of this, so maybe Mike will Vimeo some of it at a later date….

Here she is under the watchful eye of GMommy, romping through the rose gardens.

More pics here.

Scary Easter Rabbit

Today Lucy got to meet Isidora, who was visiting from windy Paris.

We had lunch at a cafe in the shopping center right next to a big Easter egg display. Lucy was fascinated by the giant eggs and the tall white rabbit walking around in the egg forest, that is, until he (it?) noticed her and came over to say hello. Seeing that big white rabbit up close and personal was too much for Lucy, and she started crying. Even when the rabbit offered her a bendy toy rabbit, she would not have any of it.

So we made a quick getaway, diverting her attention to some delicious looking pastries nearby (see pic). I think she will stick to the chocolate Easter kitty (Wubert) for now.

We hope to see Isidora again soon, maybe next time chez elle!
