This post has to be a quick one because the kid just dropped by and said “It’s time for block time.” So, since I have a playdate that’s awaiting, here are a few words and pics having to do with music.
Jill and Lucy came back from a visit with Auntie Laura the other day raving about a radio show Auntie had playing, Little Steven’s Underground Garage. The music is really cool, much of it neat pop/rock stuff from the 60s. (I didn’t even know Soupy Sales had a catchy tune called Your Brains Will Fall Out.) Note: though the music is great, the web site is pretty terrible.
We usually listen to music while we play, so the kid is already developing her own taste about what she likes. (note: the kid just dropped by again. I’m running late!) She’s even got to the point where she’s curious about making music. Jill and I will do our best to encourage this curiosity. Who knows, maybe she’ll turn out to be another Soupy Sales! Probably not.
Jill and I often joke that Lucy will be considered pretty hip (ie, a social outcast) when she starts going to school because of her affinity for the pop music her parents play for her. Yep, ‘current’ acts like the Beatles, Sweet, Neil Diamond, the Bay City Rollers, T Rex, and Oasis—they always get the kid dancing and singing.
In addition to retro pop music, the kid enjoys puzzles, so this video shot in early November combines both. BTW, creating this video reminded me when “Saturday Night” was a shiny new song way back in the mid-70’s, when I was a kid. My sister Patty and I would always sing along to “Saturday Night” whenever it came on the car radio. Yep, as our parents drove us around in our old Pontiac station wagon, we’d sing along happily. We thought the chorus was “Eh-Aye, E-Wha, E-Wha–Night!”
Lucy went to her first luau on her first trip to Hawaii back in January. She likes to look at videos of herself ‘as a baby,’ so we came across this in our quest for new stuff to watch. She has changed so much since then!
The luau was at the Kona Village Resort in Kona, Hawaii. We were there with Grandpa Peter, Auntie Laura and Uncle John. This was a really special trip and we were glad to share it with them.
Lucy was excited about all these things in anticipation of the Obon fest this weekend…and it did not disappoint.
In the games area Lucy fished for ducks many times, and won two superballs and a pinwheel.
Next on the list: rainbow shave ice! what a delight! always reminds us of Hawaii…
She was really into the drums, dancing and bobbing to the beat, and in the kid’s area, even tried her hand at drumming. A future taiko drummer? who knows!
She also got a balloon animal, from this very creative and talented balloon animal crafter…
Last year we went to 2 Obons, once with Grandmommy and Gpa. Obon is all about family and remembering your loved ones and ancestors, so it was a perfect day to remember our love for Gmommy.
Yep, Lucy is full of energy. Her mom and I can’t keep up with her—even when we “tag team” and take turns! Here’s some footage of the kid running, dancing, hopping, (and falling down) to a couple of Green Day tunes.
Here’s a video of Lucy and I making some noise w/ a demo copy of Reason and my new Axiom 25, which Lucy dubs “the piano.” She really enjoys banging on the thing, saying “Piano! Piano!” whenever I’m at my desk. The other night she even dragged out her toy xylophone and said, “Look, Daddy. I have a piano too!”
Yep, just like her dad, the kid really enjoys making noise. Hmm, I wonder if she’ll be playing air guitar to Tomy Iommi riffs by the time she’s nine or ten too?
