Reading with Daddy

Lucy likes to read a book or dozen before bed, and lately has been asking Daddy to do it. So here are some pics of the bundle getting read a bedtime story! The top row she is reading her new Totoro book, and below that she is reading another favorite, Mog.

You might remember a previous post about this subject complete with video here

Dollwearing baby

Lucy has been getting more interested in her dolls, and consequently, she wants to carry them just like Mommy. So I got her a doll wrap!

How did I know? She points to a dolly, then grabs ones of my wraps. (Gmommy asked if she feeds dolly just like Mommy, and the answer is not yet! )

It’s not the best wrapping job in the world (look how dolly’s head is sticking out the side in the above pic!) but she generally wants it off after 5 minutes anyway.

On the Phone

Gma doesn’t think we should let the kid play w/ the phone, and she’s right….but the kid’s mom (not me!) let her play with it just this once so that mom could get some video.

I guess this is what we sound like to Lucy when she hears us blab on the phone (or to each other). Actually, she may not be that far from the truth. Blah-Blah-Diddle- Diddle-Diddle for now.

Dolly and dress

Miss Lucy is beginning to take more interest in her dolls. She has one small baby-doll which she carries and rocks, and a couple of these soft dolls too.

This pic was taken on a very hot day, so she was wearing a summery dress for the first time this year.

And look what her dolly is wearing — a very similar summery dress! (Thanks to Gma Karen and Gpa Tom for Lucy’s dress!)

Hot day

Yesterday was another hot day, so we cooled down with some ice cream. Lucy was kind enough to offer some to Wubert….

but he said “no thank you!”

Daddy’s shoes

Lucy’s latest goofy play thing is to walk around in other people’s shoes. Here she is wearing her daddy’s shoes — one forward, one backward! Goofy girl!

Cooking w/ Gma: Lumpia

Cooking w/ Gma from Mike C on Vimeo.

The kid and her mom got their first cooking primers from Gma this past weekend. Since they’re both big lumpia fans, it was fitting that their inaugural lesson centered on the fried treats. Who knows, maybe L will be in charge of bringing the lumpia at a future get-together!

In Grandma’s garden

Grandma Vita is always busy in her garden. Here are some of the plants and flowers that grow under Gma’s care.

A lot of her plants have stories, too. Like “that came from so-and-so’s garden,” “that was Uncle Charlie’s,” or “Sam (Jr.) built that.” The walnut tree was dug out by Uncle Charlie, who knew it wouldn’t grow if its trunk was buried. The deck was built by Uncle Charlie (with help from Sam Jr.). There is a lot of family history in her garden! More pics here.

Yogurt!

Alright, m’lady likes her yogurt. I just haven’t figured out a way to give it to her that is not incredibly messy! Here she is eating it out of the container:

First , she licks it as far into the container as possible. Then, she starts scooping with her hands. Yep, I give her spoons. Many spoons. Big spoons, little spoons, baby spoons. She tosses them on the ground.

So I bought the yogurt that comes in those neat little tubes the other day, hoping that would help. Nope, it just gives her a new weapon in the mess game. Projectile yogurt! Squirting yogurt!

Oh well. Guess yogurt will have to remain one of those “right before your bath” foods.

p.s. we apologize for the lack of posts lately, we’ve been pretty busy moving and selling our place!

Lucy eats out

Even though Lucy is still nursing, and doesn’t have any back teeth yet (just the 8 in front), she always likes to test out new food, esp. whatever you’re having.

She will fill her cheeks like a chipmunk and wait for whatever it is to dissolve, or swallow with a big gulp. She has been to IKEA’s cafeteria for lunch several times and had cookies and tea in the cafe at Filoli.

Recent menu items she has savoured include this huge tuna sandwich (nope, she didn’t eat the whole thing!) and yogurt (she refused 2 different spoons in favor of licking it out of the tub, getting it all over her face up to her eyebrows!)

This weekend though was her first night out at a real restaurant, full of noise and lots of people. She went with Gpa Tom and Gma Karen (and her parents of course) to an Italian restaurant on Saturday night, so it was really busy.

She was patient while we waited for a table, enjoyed the crayons and the kids menu, ate some macaroni and some chicken, and had a lot of fun playing with the straw for her water. We saw a few other babies, some crying, but not her! Her dad gives her a 10 out of 10 for her first night out!
