Yogurt!

Alright, m’lady likes her yogurt. I just haven’t figured out a way to give it to her that is not incredibly messy! Here she is eating it out of the container:

First , she licks it as far into the container as possible. Then, she starts scooping with her hands. Yep, I give her spoons. Many spoons. Big spoons, little spoons, baby spoons. She tosses them on the ground.

So I bought the yogurt that comes in those neat little tubes the other day, hoping that would help. Nope, it just gives her a new weapon in the mess game. Projectile yogurt! Squirting yogurt!

Oh well. Guess yogurt will have to remain one of those “right before your bath” foods.

p.s. we apologize for the lack of posts lately, we’ve been pretty busy moving and selling our place!

Lucy eats out

Even though Lucy is still nursing, and doesn’t have any back teeth yet (just the 8 in front), she always likes to test out new food, esp. whatever you’re having.

She will fill her cheeks like a chipmunk and wait for whatever it is to dissolve, or swallow with a big gulp. She has been to IKEA’s cafeteria for lunch several times and had cookies and tea in the cafe at Filoli.

Recent menu items she has savoured include this huge tuna sandwich (nope, she didn’t eat the whole thing!) and yogurt (she refused 2 different spoons in favor of licking it out of the tub, getting it all over her face up to her eyebrows!)

This weekend though was her first night out at a real restaurant, full of noise and lots of people. She went with Gpa Tom and Gma Karen (and her parents of course) to an Italian restaurant on Saturday night, so it was really busy.

She was patient while we waited for a table, enjoyed the crayons and the kids menu, ate some macaroni and some chicken, and had a lot of fun playing with the straw for her water. We saw a few other babies, some crying, but not her! Her dad gives her a 10 out of 10 for her first night out!

Fun at Gma’s

We’ve been getting our place ready to sell, and Gma has been graciously hosting us at her place (even Wubert!) So during all the hustle and bustle of packing and moving and fixing and prepping, her home has been an oasis of calm.

Thanks to Gma’s generosity and kindness, we have felt at home right from the start. (There is nothing like coming home to the smell of fresh baked bread!) Even Wubie is starting to patrol the halls at night like he owns the place, and peeking in every nook and cranny.

Lucy loves hanging out with Gma, and helping her in the garden. The other day we rediscovered an old red wagon, that has entertained many a kid (including Hayley and Tyler), and Gma pulled Lucy around the yard in it. Well, every day since then, we’ve had to have wagon time!

When the weather is nice we also try to give Lucy outdoor meals (to save on cleanup, and the birds like it too.) Here she is having some rice with adobo sauce on it, and trying her mom’s macaroni and cheese too, just for good measure.

We shot lots of video of the wagon tours, so once Mike has his video editing computer up and running, we hope to have some video to add!

Thanks again Gma for welcoming us into your home, and for all your love and support!

Scary Easter Rabbit

Today Lucy got to meet Isidora, who was visiting from windy Paris.

We had lunch at a cafe in the shopping center right next to a big Easter egg display. Lucy was fascinated by the giant eggs and the tall white rabbit walking around in the egg forest, that is, until he (it?) noticed her and came over to say hello. Seeing that big white rabbit up close and personal was too much for Lucy, and she started crying. Even when the rabbit offered her a bendy toy rabbit, she would not have any of it.

So we made a quick getaway, diverting her attention to some delicious looking pastries nearby (see pic). I think she will stick to the chocolate Easter kitty (Wubert) for now.

We hope to see Isidora again soon, maybe next time chez elle!

Cereal Endorsement

Since Lucy is still a bit lacking in the molar department, she hasn’t experienced many different foods. However, out of the foods she has managed to taste, Cheerios are a big favorite.

Her mom always makes sure to have a ziploc full of Cheerios at the ready just in case Lucy starts jonesing for some bite-sized, toasted, whole-grain goodness. Though the Cheerios have a tendency to get everywhere, they’re more than worth the trouble ‘cuz they help keep the bad baby at bay.

Lumpia Factory

Lumpia Factory

The kid’s really earning her keep now, wrapping lumpia like an old pro! As long as we keep her in the dark on child labor laws and stop that rabble-rouser Wubert from putting any crazy “Union” ideas into her head, we should be good to go.

A Little Sour

A Little Sour

The kid’s starting to branch out just a bit in the food department. Though she’s usually less than impressed with her findings, she’s a trooper, this kid!

She’ll give anything a try (that’s why we have to keep her away from Wubert’s tail). In this instance, Lucy encounters a lemon-flavored juice bar deal and finds it a bit sour.

Cheerios

Lucy watched her daddy eat a bowl of cheerios last night and she thought it was hilarious! He’d take a spoonful, and she’d laugh at him. Another spoon, another laugh…guess she thinks only dorks use utensils (or bottles)!

In other news, she has been practicing her motor skills and has become adept at pushing things off the table. Bottle caps, containers of pens, you name it. She is a champion stuff-pusher! She’s also been practising her vowels, esp. late at night. She can have a whole conversation in vowels, and she’s louder than Wubert.

I also have a sneaking suspicion she can move herself around more than I am aware. I set her in a chair to put on her storchy wrap (we’ve been babywearing a lot) and in the next second she was on the other side. Of course, I didn’t see it, just the outcome….Gotta keep my eye on her!
