Old Is New

The Holiday Season Approaches

Lucy has a lot of “firsts” coming up in the next couple of months. First Thanksgiving. First Christmas. First birthday. Actually, today even marks Lucy’s first ten months on the planet. So needless to say, we’re quite excited for the little kid.

One really neat aspect about having the kid around: we get a second chance to see and experience familiar things through the little one’s brand spanking new eyes. Yep, things, places, holidays, and events which may have been “old hat” for us in the not too distant past now get a second chance to be shiny and new for us.

We’ll get to experience Christmas for the “first” time through Lucy. Eventually, we’ll also get to experience such familiar but disparate elements as snow, travel, school, Disneyland, tying a shoe, going to a movie, grabbing an ice cream cone, reading a book, telling a corny joke, etc., for the “first” time again, ‘cuz we’ll be experiencing them with Lucy. That’s a pretty special talent for someone who hasn’t fully figured out how to use a spoon just yet.
