Learning To Stand

Learning to Stand

Lucy’s latest obsession: learning how to stand. Yep, crawling was it for about a month, but now it’s all about wobbling on her own two feet. Give her a prop she can use to pull herself up (then lean on for support) and she’s a happy kid.

Once upright, she’ll stand unsteadily for a few seconds, big goofy grin on her face, teetering this way and that. She’ll look around, savoring the new sights to which she is now privy. And just as quickly, the goofy grin is swallowed by a momentary look of confusion, then horror, as she realizes her legs have partnered in a revolt against this whole “let’s get vertical” fad. Down she goes, usually onto a pillow (or a nearly as cushy cat).

Does this dissuade the kid in the slightest? Nope. She’s now had a glimpse of the wonders available to those brave enough to stand at their full height (2′ 4” in her case). She knows there’s no going back. And she attempts to stand yet again.

Note: the “I got it, I got it, I got it … I ain’t got it,” line from the above pic is a bit of a homage to Ron Carey’s character in High Anxiety.
